Configuring Wheel Mouse in Debian

I'm running Debian in VMWare in Workstation mode. My wheel mouse doesn't work automatically. I had to have the following configuration in /etc/X11/xorg.conf for it to work:

Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier      "Configured Mouse"
        Driver          "mouse"
        Option          "CorePointer"
        Option          "Device"                "/dev/input/mice"
        Option          "Protocol"              "ExplorerPS/2"
        Option          "Emulate3Buttons"       "true"
        Option          "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
        Option          "Buttons" "5"
